Cheongdam-dong stretches roughly 700 meters from Galleria Department Store to Cheongdam intersection, where flagship stores of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and other luxury brands line both sides of Apgujeong-ro. It lies within the Cheongdam–Apgujeong Fashion Special Zone designated in 2008. Each boutique occupies a distinctively designed building that reflects the brand's own aesthetic, making the street as much an architecture tour as a shopping destination. Fueled by the Korean Wave, the area earned an alternative name, Celebrity Street, as the salons and restaurants frequented by Korean stars became draws in themselves. In recent years, concept boutiques and galleries tucked into side alleys have transformed it into a lively hub where luxury retail meets contemporary art.
