About this place

Seochon, located to the west of Gyeongbokgung Palace, is a warm neighborhood where commoners and artists have gathered since the Joseon era, with over 660 hanok houses and narrow alleyways preserving the atmosphere of old Seoul. Traces of modern literary and artistic figures such as poets Yun Dong-ju and Yi Sang, and painter Park No-soo, remain throughout the area, blending with traditional landmarks like Tongin Market's Dosirak Cafe and a cluster of small galleries and craft studios that give the neighborhood its distinctive local character. Unlike the more polished Bukchon, Seochon offers an unpretentious, lived-in warmth that allows visitors to experience the everyday life of Seoul up close.
