About this place

Yongsan Family Park opened in 1992 on land that had served as the US Eighth Army golf course until Seoul acquired it, and covers 297,000 square metres. It sits directly east of the National Museum of Korea, making the two an easy pair to visit together. The old fairways left gentle hills, and the park is built around them with a broad lawn and a pond, giving it an open, Western-style feel; outdoor sculptures and exercise equipment line the walking paths. Visitors can spread a mat on the lawn and rest. Note that Yongsan Park — the national park being created on the former US garrison — is a separate site still only partially open.

Good to know

Address
137 Seobinggo-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
Hours
Always open
This is an ungated neighbourhood park with no ticket office, and both the Seoul city parks service and the Korea Tourism Organization list it as open at all times, year-round and free, with no posted opening hours or closing day. Two similarly named sites are easy to confuse it with. Yongsan Children's Garden, on the former US garrison, does keep set hours of 09:00-18:00 Tuesday to Sunday and closes Mondays; and Yongsan Park, the national park being created on the same former base, is still only partially open. Neither is this park. The National Museum of Korea, immediately to the west, is a separate institution with its own visiting hours. Enquiries +82-2-792-5661.
