About this place
Jeongdok Public Library opened in January 1977 on the former grounds of Kyunggi High School in Hwa-dong, Bukchon, and is run by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. It still uses the school's red-brick building of 1938, which was registered as a national heritage in 2002 under the name "Former Kyunggi High School, Seoul". The library holds around 490,000 books, and its Seoul Museum of Education displays some 12,000 items from the history of Korean schooling. What brings travellers here, though, is the garden in front of the main building. Its broad lawns are planted with cherry trees, so in spring you can walk under the blossoms. It is open to anyone. It sits on the way from Gyeongbokgung and Anguk Station to Samcheong-dong, so it fits easily into a walk through Bukchon.
