About this place
The National Theater of Korea, established in 1950 as the first national theater in Asia, stands at the foot of Namsan Mountain in Seoul's Jung-gu district. The complex houses four distinct performance venues: the 1,563-seat Haeoreum Grand Theater, the Daloreum Theater, the Byeoloreum Theater and the Haneul Theater. Resident companies including the National Dance Company, the National Changgeuk Company and the National Orchestra of Korea stage productions that reinterpret traditional Korean arts for contemporary audiences. The Museum of Performing Arts and an outdoor cultural plaza are on site as well. The nearest subway stop is Dongdae Ipgu Station on Line 3, about 877 m from Exit 6 toward Namsan.
