About this place
The Amorepacific Headquarters was designed by the British architect David Chipperfield, who took his cue from the restrained form of a Korean white porcelain moon jar, and was completed in October 2017 in front of Yongsan Station. It rises 22 storeys above ground over seven basement levels, with a total floor area of 188,902 square metres. Into its almost cubic mass Chipperfield cut three Roof Gardens on the fifth, eleventh and seventeenth floors, each carved out of five or six whole storeys in a modern reading of the courtyard of a traditional hanok, letting light and the changing seasons reach deep inside the building. What is open to visitors is the Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) on the first floor and the level below. It grew out of the founder's collection of Korean antiquities, opened as the Pacific Museum in 1979, took its present name in 2009, and moved into this building in 2018. A museum lobby and shop lead into an atrium that runs through three floors, alongside apLAP, a library whose two-storey corridor of shelving holds some 10,000 exhibition catalogues from around the world, arranged by continent and country. On the second floor, the Amore Yongsan flagship store offers custom-blended cosmetics and skin and scalp diagnostics.
