About this place

Built in 1405 as a secondary palace to Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung served as the de facto principal royal residence for approximately 270 years following the Japanese invasions. Its halls follow the surrounding terrain, and it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1997. The rear garden (Secret Garden), with its dense forest, ponds, and pavilions, turns red with foliage in autumn.
